The Theatre Project presents Barbicide, A haunting reflection of the Sweeney Todd legend, with just a dash of Mafioso mythology. Barbicide is a noirish revenge play of interwoven monologues, underscoring the consequences of coincidence and fate. From the team that brought you Bitch, fresh off its sold out run at The Historic Players Theatre, comes Barbicide.

Arthur Aulisi (Toddesco/The Judge)
Previously with The Theatre Project: Universal Monsters and Bitch (also by Sean Pomposello). Arthur was an original member of adobe theatre company and the Associate Artistic Director of Andhow Theater Company. He has worked with countless other NYC companies including Soho Rep, New Dramatists and Ensemble Studio Theater; premiering such playwrights as Lanford Wilson, Neal Bell and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Current affiliations include Rabbit Hole Ensemble, The Essentials and the advisory board of JACK (Hoi Polloi). Arthur is proud to be a member of the Laurie Stanton’s Sound Diet ensemble (a radio show taped before a live audience) and of his continuing work with Off the Hook (a youth playwrighting program in Red Hook). He was selected Person of the Year by nytheatre.com for his contribution to independent theatre.
Paulette Oliva (Ms. Lionetti/Beggar Woman)Fresh from the New York Regional Premiere of Next To Normal, where she portrayed Diana Goodman. Favorite roles include Maria Callas in Master Class, performed regionally in New York, and at the Sunoco Performance Theater, Harrisburg, PA - also regionally in New York she portrayed Mama Rose in Gypsy, and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, which perfectly prepared her for Ms. Lionetti in Barbicide! Paulette also enjoys the art of "cabaret" where she has performed at The Duplex, in NYC.
Doug Sharf (Ant Knee/Toby)
Doug Sharf recently finished a four month run at The Players Theatre and is proud to be back. The Brooklynite's credits include The Pillowman (Florida Players), Centralia (Ugly Rhino), Alice in Wonderland (Literally Alive) and Happy Endings (NYMF), to name a few. He is an associate artist of Brooklyn based theatre/party company Ugly Rhino and wants you to look out for his upcoming web series Rubber Room (952 Films). Much love to Christian, Kerianne, Casey with the Theatre Project, to Sean for trusting his work with me, to M/D/J, the Fluff Dungeon and CG crew, and Access Talent. BFA University of Florida.
Angie Atkinson (Jo)
Previously with The Theatre Project: Universal Monsters. Other credits include: The Players Theatre's Short Play and Musical Festival series. Favorite roles include: Real Pocahontas in DISEnchanted: Bitches of the Kingdom, Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, Violet Hilton in Side Show, Hope Cladwell in Urinetown, and Henriette in The Learned Ladies. Angie is also an alt-country singer-songwriter based in NYC.

- Oct 09, 12Sean Pomposello is a screenwriter, playwright and former HBO writer. Both The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship and Monterey County Film Commission have recognized his screen work. His full-length plays include House Red, Bitch, Turnpike South, Barbicide and The Woodpusher. Many theaters and festivals around the country have staged his plays, including Theater for the New City, Naked Angels, The Impact Theater, The Strand Theatre, Manhattan Repertory Theatre and The Riant Theatre's Strawberry One Act Festival. The Theatre Project hosted a series of his work titled Universal Monsters in November and December of ’11 and his previous full-length play, Bitch, ran at The Players Theatre in January of 2012. Christian Amato (Director/Producer)
Christian Amato is a New York based director and designer. He is the Founding Artistic Director of The Theatre Project, which the West Villager has acclaimed as an "Adventurous New Company," as well as the Media Director at The Historic Players Theatre. Regionally, he has directed Dog Sees God, Reefer Madness, HAIR!, The Dining Room, and Ajax. Off-Broadway Christian re-adapted and directed Sarah Kane's final play, 4.48 Psychosis. Other Off-Broadway credits include Play Date, Universal Monsters, and B*tch, reviewed by Downtown Magazine as "A great success!" Most recently, he directed the world premiere production of the new musical Alice In Wonderland, nominated for an Off-Broadway Alliance Award for "Best Family Show." KeriAnne Murphy (Production Stage Manager)KeriAnne Murphy is the Executive Director and Production Stage Manager of The Theatre Project, the Production Stage Manager for Literally Alive, the Production Stage Manager for Be Bold! and the Theatre Manager of The Players Theatre. Recent Off Broadway Credits include: Cinderella, Hollow, Tico Tales, Alice In Wonderland, Bitch, A Christmas Carol, Stone Soup, 4.48 Psychosis, and The Little Mermaid. Besides Barbicide, she is currently working on the Literally Alive productions of Cinderella and A Christmas Carol (opening November 25th) and the Be Bold! production of their new show Hollow. She is excited to be applying her love of fashion to the the stage and seeing both Proper Etiquette and The Theatre Project grow in exciting new directions.A special thanks goes out to her mother and partner in crime Kim Hurley, Christian and everyone involved in "Barbicide" for such a fabulous opportunity.Danny Gray (Composer)With a love for musical storytelling, Danny Gray creates vivid and memorable scores for film, television, and multimedia. Credits include ABC's Good Morning America, 20/20, What Would You Do, and NY Med, as well as original scores for the independent films The Golden Tree (Aria Pictures), and By the Riverside (NYU Tisch School of the Arts). Danny's music has also been featured on numerous classical radio programs, including WQXR's Young Artist Showcase. Danny is excited to rejoin Christian Amato and The Theatre Project after composing the incidental music to last year's production of Sean Pomposello's Bitch. Some of his other stage collaborations include the ballet Only Photographs, commissioned by the Illuminations Dance Company, and incidental music to the world premiere of Joey Brenneman's Better Left Unsaid, a groundbreaking interactive staged production live-streamed via internet. Danny is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music, and a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Preview performances of Sean Pomposello’s Barbicide began Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the The PlayersTheatre (115 MacDougal Street). Opening night is set for Thursday, October 11, 2012. The Theatre Project brings you just-released production shots below!One of New York's "Adventurous New Companies" takes on a haunting reflection of the Sweeney Todd Legend in the The Theatre Project production of Sean Pomposello's new play, BARBICIDE. Directed by Christian Amato, the production will feature the developmental cast led by NYtheatre.com Person of the Year, Arthur Aulisi and Paulette Oliva.
The two will share the stage as Toddesco and Ms. Lionetti, among others, inspired by one of theatre's legendary murderous duos. They will be joined by Douglas Sharf and Angie Atkinson as a sailor and concubine who's paths cross, love forms, and disaster follows.

The new play Barbicide will celebrate its World Premiere off-Broadway run at The Historic Players Theatrebeginning October 4. Barbicide is written by playwright Sean Pomposello and directed by Christian Amato. The show's cast features Arthur Aulisi, Paulette Oliva, Douglas Sharf and Angie Atkinson.
The cast for this modern adaptation of Sweeney Todd gathered together on August 25 at West Street Studios in Brooklyn for their first-ever photo shoot.

BARBICIDE Receives Off-Broadway Run At The Historic Players Theatre
Barbicide, the site-specific production currently staged in a vintage New York City barbershop, is set to premiere Off-Broadway at The Historic Players Theatre this October.Performing to sold out audiences since May, The Theatre Project has been developing the play through a series of developmental readings. Barbicide tells the story of a barber in 1960s Queens who has just been released from prison after being framed by a local mob boss. The final reading in the series will be at 8:30PM on Wednesday, June 20th at Moustache Tonsorial, located at 55 Greenwich Avenue between Charles and Perry Street.The Theatre Project will present the World Premiere production of Barbicide, written by Sean Pomposello and Directed by Christian Amato, at The Players Theatre for a limited run this upcoming October. Theatre Review: B*tch Redefines NYC Indie Theatre
Dedicated to modern playwrights, The Theatre Project has a new vision for indie theatre. B*tch, The Theatre Project's latest endeavor written by Sean Pomposello and directed by Christian Amato, ran for three consecutive weeks at the Players Theatre on MacDougal Street. B*tch focuses on family discourse, examining a world behind get-rich-quick schemes.The most notable attributes of B*tch are the chemistry of the cast and the fresh and proficient production team. The writer and director share an intuitive rapport. Amidst a sea of tired scriptwriters, B*tch bespoke revival. Pomposello shows dexterity, particularly with his balance of the Mametian perspective. At 24 years old Amato's directorial adeptness is already making an impressive impact on indie theatre.
